ONE TO WATCH

FEDERICA LOSITO

Tattooing as an act of healing.

Your work comes from the idea that tattooing can be something to help people, not just an aesthetic choice. Where does this come from?

«

Over the years, a deep need grew inside me, a need to have a purpose, to feel useful, to recognize my own value. It also came from experiences where I felt left out. Fifteen years ago I watched an interview with Kat Von D where she talked about tattooing as a means of healing and about herself as a bridge between the tattoo and the client’s story.

Those words never left me.

Is there something you’re building right now, as an artist or as a person, that nobody sees yet?

«

I’m building myself, day by day. In a constant search for growth, as an artist and as a person.

And I feel a growing desire to meet more people who are going through a change, personal, psychological or physical to welcome it together and turn it into something they can carry on their skin.

How much of your inner world ends up in your tattoos?

«

At first, not much, I was very young when I started tattooing. There were moments when I’d come home completely drained, with nothing left. Even though I deeply loved what I was doing.

Over the years I started truly listening to myself and I realized something had to change. I was creating only what was asked of me, without putting myself into it. So I started looking inward. My style became a reflection of who I am. Strong in the ornamental details, gentle in the softer touches.
